| At the point in which language fails to describe a situation is the point at which no effort should be made. All week I have been watching as different forms of media struggle to be the first to attach the best pseodonym to the current events."Terrorists Attack on The World Trade Center" soon turned to, "Terror from the skies", and then to "Attack on America", and "Attack on Freedom". Then we have "Americas New War", which is made up of "Operation Noble Eagle", and now "Operation Infinite Justice". I have no clever words to add to the list, I will not make comparisons to Pearl Harbor, I will not make references to the oft quoted Franklin D. Roosevelts speech on the "Day that will live forever in infamy". To do so makes one lose their focus, to pay attention to well placed sound bytes, to titles decided upon by commitee, to comparisons drawn upon past events that have no merit and no relation to todays atrocities. The time is past for pretty words, so, no, I will not make a paltry attempt to add mine to the annuls of history, but, I will say this. I am proud of my country. I am proud of how well we have pulled together, I am proud of my fellow citizens as well as those around the world, lending their support, their prayers and their hearts to those who need them. I have never heard so much talk of god, seen the american flag displayed so proudly, and so frequently, I have never seen such an outpouring of love for a nation that was heading naively down a primrose path to an uncertain future. It is time that we begin to open our eyes and live in the world rather than above it, to respect rather than ignore, and to learn what we have failed to in the past. Much evil has transpired, and much good has and will continue to come forth from it, hold together, remain strong, and above all, remember who you are, and what you stand for. skrike@echo23.com |
